Publishing in Open Access

Publishing is not without costs. Subscription journals recoup the costs of publication by charging a fee to access the content. As Gold Open Access content is freely available the costs are defrayed through article-processing charges (APCs) or book-processing charges (BPCs).

What does an APC cover?

As well as permanent, immediate, and worldwide access to the full article text the APC covers:

Editorial work: peer review, administrative support, commissioning content, journal development.
Technical infrastructure and innovation: development, maintenance and operation of online journal system and websites.
Production of articles and full journal:  formatting and mark-up of articles, Doi registration, printing and shipment of hard copies.
Marketing of journal and content: making sure readers and authors know about the work published in the title
Customer service: responding to authors and readers

What does APC not cover?

APC does not cover the indexing of articles across various databases, as these are independent entities from the journal. The journal cannot be held responsible if a particular database decides to discontinue indexing the journal.

Publishing costs for Books

We customize our publishing packages to each book. Binding type, page size and whether illustrations are required are several factors that affect the price. Once we have received your manuscript, we will provide you with a full-service publishing proposal that outlines the fees. We’ll also outline the general production specifications of your book and how long it will take to complete. Anyway a minimum of price for up to 150 pages (black and white) and 10 hard copies to be send to the author the cost of publishing services including shipment is 1100 GBP.

Publishing costs for Articles

To cover all costs of publication Richtmann charge a flat “article processing charge” that can range from GBP 180 to GBP 1700. Please see the journal page you are interested in for detailed information about the fee.  In some cases, when authors genuinely do not have the means to pay publication fees, can apply for full or partial waivers, depending on our financial capability.
