The Uses of the Latin Gerundive

Abstract

The Latin language composes a significant part of the cultural entirety of Europeans. This communication tool, with an indisputable superiority till the Middle Ages, gave life to a number of languages and other literatures. The harmonious complex of expressive logical and technical communicative skills also had an influence on a lot of other languages, which have different origins. Owing to the wealth and complexity it has, the Latin language has been studied and continues to be studied by different linguists to point out the similarities and differences to their respective languages. In this article, we have analyzed the uses of the Latin gerundive, a non-finite form, which combines the characteristics of the noun and adjective. The Latin gerundive is a special non-finite form of the Latin language, which does not have an equivalent non-finite form in the Albanian language. The object of the analyses will be the Latin gerundive with an attributive function, the use of the gerundive cases, the various syntactic functions, etc. All the examples obtained from the Latin literature will be translated in Albanian solving in this way the problems of understanding for the Albanian reader.
