Abstract

South Africa celebrates twenty years of freedom and democracy in 2014. Its freedom brought about academic freedom to a space hitherto ring-fenced into racial blocks. The situation has gradually changed over the years with historically black institutions such as the University of Fort Hare benefiting from the new dispensation.
