This research article presents a comprehensive investigation that compares the effectiveness, user satisfaction, preferences, and impact of learning approaches on two popular language learning platforms, Duolingo and Oxford English Coach. The study used a mixed-methods approach that included quantitative analysis of language proficiency improvement, user satisfaction surveys, and qualitative exploration of user preferences and factors influencing language acquisition. The research findings reveal that both platforms effectively improve language proficiency among users, and users reported high satisfaction levels. However, user preferences varied; Duolingo users favored gamified learning approaches and a freemium pricing model, while Oxford English Coach users preferred structured learning approaches and a subscription-based pricing model. The study also found that both gamified and structured approaches positively impacted user motivation and proficiency. Qualitative analysis identified key factors influencing language acquisition, including user experience, content quality, and motivation. The results of this study, which provide valuable insights into the effectiveness and user preferences of language learning platforms, have significant implications for language educators, researchers, and developers of language learning technologies.
