The negative impacts of coronavirus on education require education stakeholders to devise a means of supporting equal access to education. The precautionary measures such as curfews, social distancing, stay-at-home orders as well as the lack of social gatherings have impeded the operations of traditional education setups. EdTech or online education are the possible replacement of a traditional education system. Several journals have discussed the use of social media in education; therefore, this study explores how social media education has been used by different higher education institutions. The research used quantitative methods on 200 participants from different colleges. The selected sample filled an online survey that was convenient because of the coronavirus pandemic. The results showed that learners have used social media in their online education, however, they face the challenges of distractions and misinformation. The study recommends institutions to diversify social media platforms used for learning and to train students on selective attention as a strategy for limiting distractions.
