Effect of Consumer Health Education Programme on the Attitude of Secondary School Students in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State
Abstract
The study determined the effect of consumer health education programme (CHEP) on the attitude of
secondary school students in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State. Three specific
objectives with corresponding research questions and one null hypothesis was postulated. The study
utilized quasi-experimental research design. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire. Data
were collected from 408 students. Means were utilized to answer the research questions, while t-test was
utilized in testing the hypothesis at .05 level of significance. The findings revealed that the students have
positive attitude towards consumer health with the mean of 2.52; male students have a positive attitude;
there was a difference in the consumer health attitude between students in experimental and control
groups. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that health science should be made
compulsory in all secondary schools and for all the students.
