Management of the Ecotourism Potential in the Coastal Region of Ecuador: A Thematic Analysis Evidenced in the Framework of Ecuadorian Public Policies

Ecotourism is a form of responsible tourism that prioritises environmental conservation, respects local communities and promotes sustainable interaction with nature, minimising negative impacts. This study analyses the management of ecotourism in the province of Manabí, Ecuador, through qualitative research based on interviews with 10 public officials from the entities in charge at the national and provincial levels. The perceptions and experiences of public officials, natural area managers and tourism entrepreneurs were explored, as well as the public policy framework governing the activity. The results reveal a widespread commitment to sustainable ecotourism development, but also challenges in terms of inter-institutional coordination, citizen participation and resources. It highlights the importance of strengthening collaboration between different actors and implementing more effective public policies to ensure responsible and beneficial tourism development for rural tourism in Manabí. he sustainable development of ecotourism in Manabí demands a comprehensive approach that involves all relevant stakeholders, from government institutions to local communities
