Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the research landscape surrounding organic coffee production and its alignment with sustainability principles. Utilizing a structured protocol focused on the Scopus database, an initial identification of 289 documents was refined to 108 for in-depth analysis. Through a bibliometric analysis of publications from 2000 to 2024, key trends, authors, and geographical distributions are identified, highlighting the growing academic interest in sustainable coffee practices. The co-occurrence network analysis reveals the thematic structure of the literature, focusing on environmental sustainability, agricultural practices, geographical focus, and economic and social dimensions. Content analysis further underscores the importance of shade-grown coffee systems, climate-smart agriculture, and sustainability certifications in promoting ecological and economic resilience in coffee-producing regions. However, the study also identifies significant challenges, such as the mixed effectiveness of sustainability certifications and the environmental impacts of conventional coffee farming. The paper concludes by outlining research opportunities in climate adaptation, technological innovation, and the socio-economic dynamics of coffee supply chains. The findings emphasize the need for a holistic approach that integrates environmental, social, and economic dimensions to achieve truly sustainable coffee production.
